Challenge
The challenge was to reduce the number of road and lane closures and as a consequence reduce costs, risks and traffic flow disturbance.
Approach
Our approach was to engage key stakeholders in a Lean project with workshops conducted on the DMAIC Methodology, focusing on process waste, its causes and specifically where collaboration between different stakeholders required road closures.
A new Process was designed and implemented to address the priorities identified in the workshops, supported by a Collaborative Planning approach and monthly Governance and Measures to ensure its sustainability.
Result
A pilot of the new processes and approach has reduced the number of closures by 50% and the process has been rolled out in another key piece of infrastructure achieving $1.5 million in savings.
